Zipper

The Zipper, built 1934, consider a fast hydroplane of category 225.  John Hacker designed this wonderful boat for the 125 racing class.  Zipper had a 47-horse motor and overall weight of 750 pounds.  She illustrates the sobriety and the elegance of the runabouts of competition of the 20s & 30s. Her planing hull was made to increase speed and to increase stability in tight turn. Since category 225 racing competition allowed only one person on board, the architect placed the cockpits one behind the other and the aft one can be easily closed for the competitions.

This ziper super model features:

- Scratch-built.

-
Plank-on-frame construction.

-
Heartwood Honduras Mahogany (best mahogany type.)

- 11 layers of paint and varnish.  Each was left to dry and micro sanded before apply another layer.

- Hundreds of tiny copper nails.

- Epoxy waterproof.

- Dimension: 38"L x 5.5" W.

Attention!!

Beware of some very wrong copy cat "Zipper" models out there.   They have very short body,  very wrong nose shape, very thick profile.  These reddish models  are nothing but artistic freedom and a nameplate "Zipper".
