                       Byzantine Dromon

The dromons were the most important warships of the Byzantine navy from the 6th to 12th centuries AD.  The dromons had a central tower near the main mast, from which the marines could use their bow and arrows or throw spears and other projectiles.  Dromons were frequently equipped with flamethrowers that discharged Greek fire and catapults capable of hurling 10 kg projectiles up to 250 meters.  Many dromons were also armor-plated against enemy rams.

This Dromon model is all wooden (teak) and metal.  It was built based on Model Ship Master's extensive museum research and a 832-page book titled The Age of the Dromon: The Byzantine Navy ca 500-1204.  Note the beautiful stern that only true master builders are able to build.

42" L x 25" T x 7"W (16" with oars all out)     $1,400     s&h is $130
