BRINTON LYKES
(C3-S-37b class)

The Brinton Lykes was built in the United States and entered service in 1963.  She served as merchant career under Lykes ownership.  In April, 1989 she was withdrawn from active service and transferred to the United States Maritime Administration's reserve fleet.  Brinton Lykes can be readied for service in short order in case the United States Sealift Command requires heavy military equipment transported to potential war zones around the world.

This Briton Lykes model  features:

- Scratch built

- Plank-on-frame, hollow hull construction (very important), weighing less than 10 lbs  (A solid hull of this model would be over 40 lbs and feel like a toy rather than an art piece.)

- The hollow superstructure is comprised of
hundred of individual thin pieces of wood glued together, not several solid pieces stacking on top one another.

- Windows are cutouts (not black decals), thanks to the hollow structures.

-  No computer-printed paper deck.

- >95% of parts are wood and metal
.

38" long x  6" wide x 12" tall (including base.)
