Historical
Significance:
After many years of
looking enviously on other nations, Italy could now
finally boast their new champion. Michelangelo
could maintain a good 27 knots as service speed.
The size of the ship was also something the Italians
could be proud of: She exceeded 45,000 gross
tons, with a length of over 900 feet.
Michelangelo was delivered on 21
April 1965, after five years of construction.
The ship
represented a synthesis of Italian industry and
artistry.
