Rainbow
1934 America's Cup winner

Rainbow was designed by W Starling Burgess and launched in 1934 from the Herreshoff yard where she was built in just 100 days.

Harold S. Vanderbilt skippered Rainbow in 1934 against T.O.M. Sopwith's Endeavour, one of the closest matches in America's Cup history.  Endeavour won the first two races in the 4 out of 7 series and was ahead in the third race.  However, expert strategy and superb sail handling by Vanderbilt and his tactician, W. Sherman Hoyt, allowed Rainbow to recover and win the next three races.

This Rainbow features:

  • Scratch-built

  • Plank-on-frame

  • All parts are wooden or metal

  • Eleven layers of paint and varnish to produce a hull that shines like a color mirror

  • Full deck details and full sails

         36" long x 57" tall     $499          S & H is $50.  Shipped with mast collapsed.
