HMS ENDEAVOUR model

Ship Description: HMS Endeavour, also known as HM Bark Endeavour, was a British Royal Navy vessel that Lieutenant James Cook commanded to New Zealand and Australia on his first voyage of discovery from 1768 to 1771.

History of the HMS Endeavour

The bark Endeavour was launched in 1765. Three years later she took of for a voyage under the command of Captain James Cook. On board, under the command of Lieutenant James Cook, was a crew of 72 men, 12 marines and 11 civilians. The civilians were a scientific team drawn together by Joseph Banks.

In April 1770, Endeavour became the first ship to reach the east coast of Australia, with Cook going ashore at what is now known as Botany Bay. Endeavour then sailed north along the Australian coast next stopping at the now-town of Seventeen Seventy/Agnes Water in late May 1770. From Batavia Endeavour continued westward, rounded the Cape of Good Hope on 13 March 1771 and reached the English port of Dover on 12 July, having been at sea for nearly three years. It was during this voyage that Australia was discovered and Tahiti and numerous islands sighted. When the HMS Endeavour returned to England, she brings back all kinds of animals and vegetables unknown in Europe.

Captain Cook's 1768-1771 voyage is considered to be of historical importance contributing a great wealth of navigation, seamanship, exploration, and geography to the world's knowledge. During this voyage Captain Cook was the first captain to calculate longitudinal position with greater accuracy using a mathematical formula developed in the 1760s.

This primarily wood model of HMS Endeavour is built based on the book Anatomy of the Ship Captain Cook's Endeavour by Karl Heinz Marquardt. It is correct on many important historical facts such as the color of the bottom part of the hull (not white.) This part of the hull also has one more layer of planks outside. Another historical fact is that the deck parts were yellow ochre, not red.

34" long x 30" tall x 9" wide $5,750 Shipping and insurance in the contiguous US included. Other places: $600 flat rate.  Model comes with a smaller base which is about 20" long. The large base is $400 extra. A display case for this model is $1,500. Light feature (shown in the last photo below) is $200 extra.

Model is built per commission only. We require only a small deposit (not full amount, not even half) to start the process $900. The remaining balance won't be due until the model is completed, in several months.
