NISSEKI MARU tanker

The Nisseki Maru was an oil tanker that was put into operation on September 8, 1971. She was an Ultra Large Crude Carrier (ULCC) and when commissioned the largest oil tanker in the world.

347-metres long, Nisseki Maru was built by Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries at their Kure shipyard. The ship was ordered in 1968 by the Japanese shipping company Tokyo Tanker KK. The shipyard launched the ship on April 20, 1971. After around ten months of construction, the the ship was delivered to its clients on September 8, 1971.

Due to the very large draft when fully loaded, Nisseki Maru could only be unloaded at the Kiire Terminal in Kagoshima Bay. The ship carried four million kiloliters of crude oil in nine trips a year from the Persian Gulf to Kagoshima, Japan for storage. At 90% continuous output, the Nisseki Maru consumed around 190 tons of fuel a day. Four turbine-driven pumps with an output of 5,000 m3 per hour and one pump with an output of 350 m3 per hour were available for loading and unloading the 17 cargo tanks.

In 1985, during the global tanker crisis, the ship was sold for demolition to Teraoka Iron Works in Hakodate, where it arrived on May 31, 1985 for scrapping. Nisseki Maru diligently served 14 years.

This model of the famous tanker Nisseki Maru is primarily wood (the pipes and railings are metal.) There are technical aspects in this model that are out of reach for all other makers. The Japanese letters is one. It is not vinyl decal (which also won't be available at this tiny size.) It is also not print, as they are white.
