QUEEN ELIZABETH AIRCRAFT CARRIER

The Queen Elizabeth class has two aircraft carriers. The lead ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, was commissioned in December 2017. The second, HMS Prince of Wales, was commissioned in December 2019.

HMS Queen Elizabeth provides UK armed forces with a four acre military operating base, which can be deployed anywhere in the world. The aircraft carrier is capable of carrying over forty aircraft, with a normal maximum load of thirty-six F-35s and four Merlin helicopters for airborne early warning and anti-submarine warfare. Surge capacity is up to 72 aircraft.

Alternatively a Littoral Manoeuver package could include a mix of Royal Navy Commando Helicopter Force Merlin HC4, Wildcat AH1, RAF Chinooks, and Army Air Corps Apaches. The Queen Elizabeth class's design emphasizes flexibility, with accommodation for 250 Royal Marines and the ability to support them with attack helicopters and large troop transports such as Chinooks.

The Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier is three times the size of the Invincible-class. Despite that, she has fewer crew. The carriers’ cutting-edge weapons handling system can move armaments to the flight deck six times faster, bringing the number of people required to do the job down to just 48 from 160.

The highly integrated mission system of the HMS Queen Elizabeth carrier brings together tactical, navigation, command information and mission control data it can support multiple aircraft operations and task force group command functions. The twin islands design separates the running of the ship from this activity giving greater visibility of the complex flying operations. One for navigation and ship's operations and the other for flight control and aerial operations. The islands can take on each other's function if one is incapacitated.

The hangars are designed for CH-47 Chinook operations without blade folding and for the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, whilst the aircraft lifts can accommodate two Chinooks with unfolded blades.

This primarily wood Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier model is 31.5" long (80 cm) (1/350 scale) $3,775 Shipping and insurance in the contiguous USA included. Other places: $300 flat rate. This model is in stock and can be shipped within five business days.
